Motley County School Health Advisory Committee

Minutes of March 9, 2010 meeting

 

     The Motley County School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) met Tues. March 9, 2010 at 5:00 in the Motley County ISD board room.  Those attending were:  Jan Jones: Committee coordinator, Twila Alberson—ESC Region 17 School Health Specialist, William Cochran, Rosalee Davis, Bobbie Brown, Debbie Falcon, Mary Ann Potts, Randa Green, Braden Mason, Leanne Jameson, and Judy Cooper.

     Mrs. Jones called the meeting to order and thanked everyone for being willing to serve on this committee.  Mr. Cochran gave an update on the Blood borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan.  We are in the process of developing this plan to meet state requirements to protect the staff and students from blood borne pathogens.  Judy Cooper gave a report on the School Health Survey that is required by TEA and was submitted in February.  Mrs. Jones informed the group that a blood and glucose screening would be held at Hackberry Creek Care Center on March 29th.  She also announced that several DVD’s that explain more about SHAC were available for checkout. 

     Twila Albertson, the ESC 17 School Health Specialist presented a program on the School Health Advisory Committee and on the Coordinated School Health Program.  She explained what the function of a SHAC committee was and presented several things that are required of the committee, and gave examples of how the committee is involved in recommendations that affect the health of the students and staff.

     After Mrs. Albertson’s presentation, Mrs. Jones announced a SHAC workshop to be held March 24th, at ESC 17.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 pm.
